Physicochemical Properties: Greenish-black powder. Soluble in water (purple), ethanol (bluish-purple), and cellosolve; slightly soluble in acetone; insoluble in other organic solvents. In concentrated sulfuric acid, it appears dark greenish-blue, turning deep greenish-blue to grayish-purple upon dilution; in concentrated nitric acid, it forms an orange-brown solution. The aqueous solution turns purple-red with concentrated hydrochloric acid and maroon with concentrated sodium hydroxide solution.

Applications: Used for dyeing wool, nylon, and silk fabrics, as well as for coloring leather, paper, and biological specimens. Can be used with direct dyes for wool/viscose blends.
