Physicochemical Properties: Red powder. Soluble in water (red), slightly soluble in ethanol and Cellosolve; insoluble in other solvents. In sulfuric acid, it appears purple, turning reddish-orange upon dilution. Aqueous solutions turn red with hydrochloric acid and brown with sodium hydroxide.
Applications: For dyeing wool, silk, nylon, and blends, as well as leather, paper, plastics, wood, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics. Also for ink production. Identical in structure to C.I. Food Red 7.
