Physicochemical Properties: Deep purple or grayish-green powder. In concentrated sulfuric acid, appears reddish-brown, turning yellow-green then blue upon dilution. Aqueous solutions yield deep reddish-brown precipitates with sodium hydroxide. Soluble in cold and hot water (blue), and in ethanol (blue).
Applications: For silk and wool (lightfastness: 1–2). For tannin-mordanted cotton (lightfastness: 1). Also for typewriter ribbons, carbon paper, paper, bamboo, wood, and manufacturing color lakes and solvent dyes.
