Physicochemical Properties: Brownish glittering paste. Sparingly soluble in cold water, soluble in hot water (blue), readily soluble in ethanol (blue). In concentrated sulfuric acid, appears brownish-yellow, turning reddish-yellow upon dilution; olive-green in nitric acid. Aqueous solutions yield reddish-brown precipitates with sodium hydroxide. On cotton, 10% sulfuric acid turns it brownish-yellow; 10% sodium hydroxide turns it reddish-yellow; acidic stannous chloride turns it reddish-yellow.

Applications: For silk, wool, and tannin-mordanted cotton. Often overdyed with Direct Lightfast Turquoise GB or Direct Sky Blue 5B for brightening. With grafting agents, also suitable for silk printing. Also for ballpoint inks, carbon paper, glazed paper, bamboo, wood, and manufacturing color lakes and solvent dyes.
