Physicochemical Properties: Bright green glittering crystalline powder. Soluble in water and ethanol (bright bluish-red with strong fluorescence). Readily soluble in Cellosolve; sparingly soluble in acetone. In concentrated sulfuric acid, appears yellowish-brown with strong green fluorescence, turning bright red then bluish-red/orange upon dilution. In nitric acid, appears golden-yellow. Aqueous solutions yield rose-red precipitates with sodium hydroxide; hydrochloric acid yields green crystals.

Applications: For acrylic (stable at pH 2.5–5.5), silk (in acetic acid baths), and tannin-mordanted cotton (poor fastness). Primarily for paper, waxed paper, and manufacturing color lakes, paints. Also for hemp, straw, and leather.
