Physicochemical Properties: Yellow powder. Soluble in cold water, readily soluble in hot water, yielding a bright yellow solution that decomposes upon boiling. Soluble in ethanol, producing a yellow solution. Colorless in concentrated sulfuric acid, turning pale yellow upon dilution. In aqueous solution, addition of hydrochloric acid results in a deep yellow color, which becomes colorless upon boiling; addition of sodium hydroxide yields a white precipitate. Displays bright yellow on silk fibers, appearing redder under tungsten light.
Applications: Used for dyeing silk, acrylic, and tannin-mordanted cotton, as well as leather, paper, hemp, and viscose. Suitable for direct printing and discharge printing. Also employed for coloring oils, fats, and coatings, and for preparing color lakes used in inks.
