Physicochemical Properties: Bluish-black powder. Soluble in water (bluish-purple or purple) and ethanol (reddish-purple). In concentrated sulfuric acid, it appears as turquoise or greenish-blue, turning purple upon dilution. The aqueous dye solution forms purple precipitate with concentrated hydrochloric acid and reddish-purple to wine-red with concentrated sodium hydroxide.
Applications: Mainly for dyeing cellulose fabrics like cotton, hemp, and viscose. Also used for leather and paper pulp coloring.
