Physicochemical Properties: Bluish-gray powder. Soluble in water (blue), with solubility of 10 g/L (60°C) and 20 g/L (97°C). Slightly soluble in cellosolve, sparingly soluble in ethanol, and insoluble in other organic solvents. In concentrated sulfuric acid, it appears as blue to grayish-black, turning reddish-purple upon dilution. The aqueous dye solution turns blue with precipitate in concentrated hydrochloric acid and reddish-purple with precipitate in concentrated sodium hydroxide.
Applications: Widely used for dyeing viscose fabrics, as well as cotton knitwear, blankets, and blended fabrics like viscose/polyvinyl alcohol. Exhibits good dye uptake but poor migration and leveling. Also applicable for silk, nylon, leather, paper, and soap coloring.
