Physicochemical Properties: Deep yellow uniform powder. Solubility in water is 30 g/L (80°C). Slightly soluble in ethanol (lemon-yellow), Cellosolve, and acetone (slightly greenish-yellow). In concentrated sulfuric acid, it appears bright red-purple, turning purple to reddish-blue upon dilution. The aqueous solution is yellow to golden-yellow, forming a flocculent precipitate upon cooling. The dye solution yields a deep maroon precipitate with concentrated hydrochloric acid and a golden-orange precipitate with concentrated sodium hydroxide. With 10% sodium hydroxide, slight color change occurs. A 2% aqueous solution gels at ≤15°C, hence the name “Freeze Yellow.”

Applications: Dyes cotton or viscose a reddish-yellow with excellent leveling and migration properties. It effectively covers uneven viscose fibers and dead cotton. High dye uptake; the bath should be cooled to 40°C in the final stage for optimal exhaustion. Often combined with Direct Green B, Direct Dark Green B, and Direct Lightfast Scarlet 4BS for shading. Mainly used for knitwear, blankets, etc., and as a ground for discharge printing. Also suitable for silk, wool, vinylon, and nylon.
